If you want to party on the beach in Palawan, El Nido is the place to go. Not so good for the local vibe or authentic culture, but what are you gonna do? It’s a beautiful spot, and not too screwed up when I was there. But there was definitely some pollution, and lots of development underway.
I imagine it will change a lot in the next five years. Rumor was they were about to get both a bank with an ATM, as well as electricity twenty-four hours a day, compared to the current twelve.
Sill, beautiful spot, and great access to the amazing Bacuit Penninsula, with its striking karst limestone islands and cliffs. Think Rei Lei in Thailand, or Halong Bay in Vietnam.
I did a standard island hopping tour here, and some nice scuba diving. The island hopping trip I went was ostensibly to go snorkeling. But, the sad truth is that much of the nearby coral has been killed by cyanide and dynamite fishing. Just a heads up. It’s a bit of a depressing prospect, snorkeling over a dead coral reef.
Otherwise, enjoy…
